MONDAINO GUIDED TOUR AND HIKE
The Conca Valley is a borderland between Marche and Romagna, historically disputed between the noble houses of Montefeltro and Malatesta and the backdrop for major historic events, such as the passage of the Gothic Line during World War II. It is a hilly landscape shaped by woodlands, historic dirt tracks, fortified villages, and thriving agricultural traditions. This excursion features a loop trail along paths and ancient connecting routes across the hills. We will walk through rural landscapes of woods and cultivated fields, observing traces of military architecture and local history. At the end of our walk, we will visit Mondaino, famous for its distinctive circular Piazza Maggiore and the Malatesta Fortress (Rocca Malatestiana), which houses a fascinating Paleontological Museum showcasing exceptional fossils of marine flora and fauna dating back millions of years.

MONTEFIORE CONCA – GEMMANO AND THE ONFERNO NATURE RESERVE
Montefiore Conca, recognized as one of Italy’s most beautiful villages (I Borghi più belli d’Italia), is dominated by its majestic 14th-century Malatesta Fortress (Rocca Malatestiana). Serving as the main outpost for the Malatesta dynasty in the valley, the fortress offers panoramic views stretching from the Adriatic coastline to the Apennines and preserves 14th-century frescoes, archaeological artifacts, and ancient fortified ramparts (camminamenti di ronda). A short distance away lies Gemmano—with its natural balcony overlooking the Adriatic coast—deeply connected to the events of the Gothic Line and the Battle of Gemmano in September 1944. The Onferno Nature Reserve (Riserva Naturale Orientata di Onferno) preserves a gypsum-karst landscape of great geological and ecological value, famous for its caves and rich biodiversity.
